I guess the state unions don't really understand that there is No Mo' Money! Really. We're not kidding. So unless there are concessions made in contracts, states will no longer be able to pay anyone. Tax refunds are just the beginning. So take your pick- layoffs, or wage, pension, and healthcare contribution concessions that are more in line with the private sector. Do you get it now?
"Calif. tax refunds to be delayed starting Feb. 1
Jan 16, 3:40 PM (ET)
SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) - California's controller says he will begin a 30-day delay on tax refunds and other payments starting Feb. 1 because the state is running out of money.
Controller John Chiang said Friday he must delay $3.7 billion in payments next month because lawmakers have failed to address California's growing deficit.
With a $41.6 billion shortfall over the next year-and-a-half, the state is on the brink of issuing IOUs.
Chiang says his office must continue education and debt payments but will defer money for tax refunds, student aid, social services and mental health programs.
A severe drop in revenue has left the state's main bank account depleted. The state had been relying on borrowing from special funds and Wall Street investors; those options are no longer available."

Mad Mom,
I am watching the inaugural festivities today, digesting these historic events, so proud of our founding fathers and our constitution for designing and enabling this transition of power. God Bless America.
The magnitude of these events and the forces behind them reaffirm my belief that I must redouble the expression of my traditional beliefs in order to make a difference. I am not a legislator. I am your average Joe conservative working stiff (hoping that there still is work for me next week). I live in a very liberal state so my work is even more difficult to achieve.
So what is my work, besides providing for my family? It is to be alert, to read and listen, to discuss and hear alternatives and to insure that my voice is heard by our legislators.
I have spent hours reading soon-to-be President Obama’s stimulas package. I agree with John Boehner; Oh My God! It is so full of pork and wrong-headedness. Folks, please read your history books. The solutions are written and are already available to us. Please pay attention. In this period of economic upheaval be sure that government does the right thing by us.

Good choice of words and ones that have been on my mind for the last few years.
Truth is, many Americans, myself included, took most of what made this country what it is or was, for granted.
In political matters, we fell asleep. We mistakenly thought the big-brained legislators knew what they were doing.
How wrong we were.
So now, we who care about traditional beliefs must re-educate ourselves so that we can educate others. Information is still available and can, for now, be relatively easy to obtain. By all means, contact legislators, and pressure them, but if that doesn't get the results you seek, be not overly discouraged.
For even if it seems that the world is falling apart (and there is enough anecdotal evidence to suggest it is) fear not.
For all is not lost.
Conservative beliefs have not died and dried up and blown away like so much dust. Although there are plenty on the opposite side who will try and tell this lie.
Conservative beliefs live on, for they are based upon principles, not whims nor flights of fancy.
Conservatives must do everything to stay strong, to be courageous.
For in the words of Winston Churchill, "Courage is the first of human qualities because it is the quality which guarantees all others."
Thanks for the post.
Really good comments, folks. Our country is under assault. On Michelle Malkin's blog, commenters have stated that BO has said that "We need a new Bill of Rights". Supposedly said it in Philly yesterday. Scary, scary stuff.
